Abstrak

Background: Scoliosis is defined as a lateral curvature of the spine exceeding 10 degrees. Field observations at clinics and hospitals in Indonesia indicate a significant number of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) cases treated using scoliosis braces. In-brace correction (IBC) is a method for rapidly assessing the quality of a scoliosis brace after it has been fitted to the patient, utilizing X-ray imaging while the brace is worn. Since IBC results often vary between patients, it is necessary to identify the factors contributing to these differences.

Aims: Evaluate the in-brace Cobb angle correction in patients with single-curve adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Methods: This study employed a quantitative research design and a retrospective analysis of the medical records of scoliosis patients who received treatment involving a scoliosis brace. The research sample was medical documents (X-rays) of scoliosis patients in 2024-2025 at the Bangkit Orthotic Prosthetic Boyolali Clinic with a total of 62 subjects.

Result: At the beginning of brace treatment, the mean of age was 13 years and the mean curve magnitude was 32.4 degrees. At the final follow-up, patients were successfully treated by bracing with curve magnitude was 17.1 degrees. This indicates a reduction in curvature of 15.3 degrees (P<0.05).

Conclusion: In-brace correction showed a significant decrease in the Cobb angle after using the brace, which indicates that the brace is able to provide direct spinal deformity correction through a three-dimensional pressure mechanism on the scoliotic curvature.
