Insufficient breast milk production is a problem that can hinder the success of exclusive breastfeeding and affect infant health. Factors influencing breast milk production include the mother’s physiological, psychological, and socio-cultural conditions. Acupuncture is one of the complementary therapies that can be used to stimulate breast milk production and secretion by regulating the flow of Qi and blood according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) concepts. This study aimed to determine the benefits of acupuncture care in improving breast milk production among postpartum mothers at PMB Bidan Erlinah Malang. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design involving one female participant aged 31 years who complained of insufficient breast milk production. Acupuncture care was conducted over six therapy sessions using sedation techniques and moxibustion. Data were collected through four TCM examination methods, namely observation, listening and smelling, inquiry, and palpation. The results showed a gradual increase in breast milk production, a reduction in breast tension and pain, and an improvement in the participant’s emotional condition after six therapy sessions. At the end of the therapy, breast milk production was considered adequate, and the infant was able to breastfeed effectively. The conclusion of this study indicates that acupuncture care is effective in overcoming insufficient breast milk production in postpartum mothers with Liver Qi stagnation syndrome and can be considered as a complementary therapy to improve lactation success.
