Abstract

Introduction: Preoperative anxiety is common and may cause physical and psychological disturbances that negatively affect surgical outcomes. This study evaluated the effect of red rose aromatherapy on anxiety levels among preoperative patients at RSU Negara. Methods: A quantitative quasi-experimental study with a pre-test–post-test control group design was conducted. The population included 350 eligible adult preoperative patients, with 134 respondents selected as the sample. Anxiety levels were assessed before and after the intervention. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test evaluated within-group changes, while the Mann–Whitney Test compared post-intervention anxiety between groups. Results: The intervention group demonstrated a significant reduction in anxiety (Z = −6.903, p = 0.001), whereas the control group showed no significant change (Z = 0.000, p = 1.000). Post-intervention anxiety differed significantly between groups (Z = −9.804, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Red rose aromatherapy effectively reduced anxiety levels in preoperative patients and may serve as a simple, safe, non-pharmacological complementary intervention before surgery.
