Abstract

One of the indicators used to measure the level of health in a region is the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). One of the causes of the high infant mortality rate is low birth weight (LBW). Infants with low birth weight are at higher risk of experiencing complications and even death. Low Birth Weight (LBW) remains a major health problem that requires attention in many countries, particularly in developing countries or those with low socioeconomic status. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between social factors and the incidence of Low Birth Weight (LBW) in the working area of Curahtulis Public Health Center, Probolinggo Regency, in 2024. This study employed a case–control design. The population consisted of all mothers who delivered LBW infants, totaling 50 mothers. The sample included all mothers who gave birth in 2024 at the Curahtulis Public Health Center, totaling 50 respondents. The results showed that social factors (age, education, occupation, and economic status) had a significant influence on the incidence of Low Birth Weight (LBW).
